Inquiry:  Hello! I just got my ticket for failing to stop by the red lights but I wasn’t the one who was driving at the moment. Will my demerit points get affect by this situation?! (This is my first time I got the ticket)

Response:  The answer is:  it depends.  In Ontario, if you receive a red light ticket based on a camera, then no.  You’re simply charged as the owner of the vehicle, not the driver.  On the other hand, if you were stopped and given a ticket with your name on it by a police officer, then yes.  If you would like to speak with one of our staff in more detail, please feel free to contact our offices via our toll-free number 1-866-801-8299.
