Inquiry:  I got a ticket in august. I have a g2 license right now and the ticket I got was for 138 in a 100.. it’s 4 points. It’s been paid but now I received a letter saying my license is suspend for 30 days. From what i have read on the Internet about g2 license. It says 2 or more points and you will receive a warning letter and 6 points will be a meeting. So why I am getting a letter saying it’s suspended. So I call and they tell me I have to hand my license in on Oct 19th. Just need info on this. Doesn’t make sense to me.

Response:  The keywords you would want to search online for would be “MTO novice driver escalated sanctions.”  Any novice driver (class 1, or class 2) that receives a conviction for any single offence carrying 4 or more demerit points is subject to the escalated sanctions penalties.  The first conviction under these penalties results in a mandatory 30 day licence suspension.  While it may be too late at this time to be of assistance, normally most speeding charges (some exceptions may apply depending on jurisdiction and the facts involved) at 38 km/h over the posted speed limit can at least be reduced to a lesser offence to avoid the escalated sanctions licence suspension and mitigate the demerit point, insurance, and fine owing penalties.  We offer a no-cost initial review of tickets via our toll free number 1-866-801-8299; generally, if you are charged by the police, it is in your best interests to seek out legal advice to understand what penalties you are facing and what legal options are open to you in protecting your interests.
