Inquiry: I got a speeding ticket going east on Richmond Street clocked just before the intersection with Power Street in Toronto. Officer said 72 in 1 50 Zone. Don’t want to pay the fine and get the demerit points. I already have two other tickets on my records without any demerit points. I am at a high insurance rate already and would not want to put that at risk. Options are either go to trial or go to early resolution and loose the demerit points. Your advice is appreciated. Thanks, Rudy!
Response: The ticket is a 3 demerit point offence. Generally at 22 km/h over the speed limit, assuming no roadside reduction in the rate of speed, we would expect a case of this nature to resolve without trial barring any surprises at court. We can certainly review the Prosecutor’s evidence for any grounds to have the charge thrown out, or negotiate for a lesser 0 demerit point offence on your behalf.
