Inquiry:  I was driving in Vaughan-ON. Before reaching in intersection, my husband told that he was feeling ear pain. I saw him and at that time, red light was overlooked by me. I hit a car in intersection. No one was injured.  Police officer issued me ticket mentioning RED LIGHT-FAIL TO STOP. section 144 (18). I am going to court to request to lessen the amount $ 325.00. I want to know if there are any demerit points issued to me for this?

Response:  HTA s. 144(18) is a 3 demerit point offence.  While the amount of the fine owing to the court is one of the penalties to be concerned about, there are also other issues such as licencing, insurance, and liability issues that you may need to be concerned about.  If you would like to discuss your case in more detail with one of our staff, we offer a no-cost initial review of cases via our toll-free number 1-866-801-8299.
