Inquiry: I turn right on a red light on Glen Everest Rd going north on Kingston Rd. There was no sign that says u can’t turn right on red. Glen Everest Rd. starts from Kingston Rd. Police tiketed me for red light. The officer says I have stop on red then turn right. I just look around on coming traffic & pedestrian. it was clear so I turn right slowly. Do I have to treat that like a stop sign?
Response: A charge of Red Light Fail To Stop carries three demerit points and can be issued when a vehicle fails to stop at a red light, whether turning or proceeding straight through the intersection. Barring a defence to have the charge eliminated outright, these charges may be negotiable to a lesser 0 demerit point offence.
