Inquiry:  Hi there today i nthe mail i recieved a collections notice for an unpaid  fine in Ottawa, and a notice that my license was suspended in another  letter from the mto. I paid the collection agancy immediately, now will  they post the payment with the ministry and the collections agency or will  i have to pay it again wit hthe provincial courts to expidite the re  instation? Or do I jsut wait and dont bother going down to the provincial court?

Response:  You will need to follow the instructions in the collections letter regarding payment.  Once payment has been received, you will likely have to attend the MTO to apply for a reinstatement (this carries about $150 in fee).  If the outstanding fine was the only cause of your licence being suspended, you should then be able to drive again.  An MTO clerk will be able to advise you on the status of your licence.  It is important not to drive on a suspended licence as doing so can result in a total payable fine of up to $6,250.00, a mandatory 6 month suspension, and up to 6 months jail.
