Inquiry:  Hi There, A friend of mine was charged with stunt driving in summer 2011, and went to court once, nothing came of it, and then missed his second court date. He recently got a letter in the mail saying his license is suspended for 2 years. Is there any way of appealing this, or getting his punishment changed to a fine?

Response:  Missing a court date may mean being convicted without the Defendant being present to provide their defence or their input on penalties.  Stunt Driving charges carry very harsh penalties at Court, at the MTO, and for insurance.  We would have to discuss the details of your friend’s case in more detail to advise whether there would be a reasonable chance of getting the appeal granted or not.  We offer a no-cost initial review of cases via our toll-free number 1-866-801-8299.
