Inquiry:  I was coming home from movies one night and cop at stop sign saw me. At this time I was at the entrance of the parking lot to my apartment. He followed me and drove past then drove in. He didn’t call to me or anything he just got car info.. A week later he saw me at lights I was couple cars away and turning left. He went straight veered around and followed my car . Never pulled me over he watched me get a slice of pizza then when I came out of drive through he was gone.. I went back home and there he was by the turn kinda. I pulled in on private property and he came in right after. Then burned me for no insurance and none valid sticker.is this legal or a set up. Because he told me he knew the plates were bad when was there the week before. If so why didn’t he deal with it there that night.? What are my options possibly…

Response:  Of the two charges you describe, DRIVE M/V – NO INSURANCE is the most serious carrying a fine between $5,000 to $25,000 (+25% VFS, and doubled if you have had a prior conviction) and up to a one year suspension of your licence.  An Officer may issue a charge of driving without insurance up to three years from the date of offence, and could issue a charge per incident.  Most insurance charges can at least have the penalties reduced, and in some cases there may exist a grounds to have the charge eliminated completely.  I would recommend discussing the matter further with one of our staff via our toll-free number 1-866-801-8299.
