Question: I received a parking ticket while I was in my car waiting in a no parking between hours. The parking enforcer was speaking to me and then start insulting my intelligence because while he was talking to me ge was printing the ticket out. What should I do and what souls I say?
Answer: Good morning. Unfortunately, we do not deal with parking tickets. If you would like to contest the charge, you may wish to read your local bylaws regarding parking to see whether the charge is valid. If you feel that the parking enforcer was in error, then you could decide to file the ticket with the Court to have your defence heard. I hope this helps!

Question: Have our disabled sign on left side dash of our car- good till 2014. Parked in a wheelchiar parking spot at Wallmart in Woodstock. It accidently moved down slightly to the left not displaying the 4 clearly, was not aware of this, everything else showing very clearly. Got left a ticket for $300.00 is this something we can fight as believe this is so unfair, unjust and wrong. I am disabled and on limited income.JIM
Answer: Good morning Jim. Given the size of the fine and that the charge should have no effect on your insurance rates, it would likely not be cost-effective to hire a paralegal in your case. However, you could file the matter with the Court and speak with the Prosecutor once a Court date has been set. If you provide proof of your valid parking permit, the charge may be withdrawn. I hope this helps!

Question: I was parked on the street where there aren’t any signs stating that you cannot park there. I got a ticket for parking more than 3 hours. The street address on the ticket gives the address for the south side of the road, not the north side which I was parked on. It says 1290, but I was on 1275. Can I fight this?!
Answer: Unfortunately, we generally do not fight parking tickets as the cost to fight them is generally more than the benefit of having the charge dismissed. However, you can file the ticket with the Court yourself to contest it. If you can prove to the Court that you were not in contravention of any parking signs or municipal bylaws, then you may be successful in having the charge dismissed.
Good luck

Question: did not notice handicap spot. Got a ticket. What can be done
Answer: While parking tickets do not show on your driving history, the fines on these charges can be very high. Generally, hiring a paralegal for a parking ticket will incur more cost than benefit. However, you may be able to have the fine lowered at Court.
Your question did not include where you are from; in Ontario you can chose to set the matter for trial and then speak with the Prosecutor to see if a lesser fine could be agreed to, or, you could chose option #2 to plead guilty with an explanation and ask the Justice of the Peace to reduce the fine or provide an extended period to have the fine paid.

Question:Signage for parking on an Ottawa side street is out of date with the re-development taking place. I was ticketed for parking in a signed no-parking zone, however as I parked in the legally permitted zone, I noticed that parking there blocked a right of way to private parking on the back of the lower street. So I inadvertantly moved ahead and out of the right of way to what was evidently not a blocking piosition, however the signs (which I did not notice) preclude parking in that location but not further up. Therefore, am I justified in asking the court to strike the fine due to improper and out-of-date signage for this street, which caused me to park in the forbidden area despite plenty of available space on that street?
Answer: My suggestion would be to file it for Trial and then seek to speak with a Prosecutor. As stated in previous blog enteries we do not fight parking tickets and as such would not be able to offer much advice on them. Our suggestion with them is if you feel strongly about the charge then you should choose option 3 and file it for trial.

Question:I have over $2000 in parking tickets, all acquired in the same time frame. The first ticket was for parking in a snow route, included $75 for towing. They towed the car to another street and of course ticketed the car again. This process went on to the tune of 10 or so tickets til they finally towed the car to impound. All the while I searched for my car, calling the city, the police, the impound lot. Finally got the car back and there were alot of parking tickets for which a conviction had already been entered except for the last one (barely on time). I fought the last one and the judge ruled that the police were responsible for the car after towing it. Problem is, this was ruled for the last ticket and the others I am unable to fight.
So my question is, can I somehow appeal the conviction? and apply the ruling to the first ticket, thereby paying the first ticket and the ruling canceling the rest??
Answer: I am sorry, but unfortuneatly we are not able to handle any matters in Quebec. Nor can I comment on what their proceedures are as I have never had to deal with them. My suggestion would be to google search a city specific company who can help you with these questions.
What I can tell you is normally there is an appeal process in Ontario for parking matters and I would hazzard a guess the same can be said for Quebec.
Sorry for not being much help.

Question: I received a parking ticket in Gatineau Quebec. In all identification areas of the ticket my vehicle is identified as having a PQ license plate. My vehicle has an Ontario plate. Is this error enough to get the ticket nullified?
Answer: Unfortunately I cannot give you direct information pretaining to Quebec charges of any kind as I do not practice in Quebec and have no direct contact with someone that does.
I can only tell you that in Ontario parking tickets do not show up on your driving record and are simply a fine. Usually any mistake made on the front of any ticket can be made correct once you try to fight it so I would have to say it is not a fatal flaw and most likely would not result in the ticket being dropped.
For a more accurate opinion I would suggest google search “traffic ticket defense” and state what city and province you received the ticket in. That will usually give you someone directly in that area that can help you.

Question: I have a parking ticket, but on the ticket it says my licence # is ISHI9O. My plate is actually ISHIDO. It is clearly written wrong and there is no way one could be mistaken for the other. What should I do?
Answer: Parking tickets are not something we usually fight. It will cost you more then it is worth when they do not affect your driving record nor you insurance. However if you feel strongly about it you may want to try fighting it yourself, most likely you can have the fine reduced or possibly suspended (meaning not having to pay one).
As for your situation, it is very rare that a mistake on the front of any ticket these days will result in the ticket being dropped or quashed. The Courts have cracked down a great deal on what they are willing to allow a ticket to be dropped on. If they have all the other information correct such as your name, address, and so on then that mistake can and will be corrected once you bring that to the attention of the Prosecutor.
What I suggest is to do option #2 and plead guilty with an explanation and see if the Justice might be willing to reduce the fine. You can at that time inform the Justice that the Licence Plate number is incorrect, but I am fairly certain that will not make a difference.
